Thanks for the info, I really think complete and total shunning is a very un Christian thing to do. I know I am not a JW but if I was, no way would I stop speaking to someone just because they had been DFd, thats doesnt make sense to me!

What basis for disfellowshipping/shunning?
by Bad Girl inok bear with me cos i am new to this and have lots of questions to ask.. what scriptural basis is given for disfellowshipping and shunning ie what scriptures are used to say this should take place?
i seem to recall a scripture (hoping someone can jog my memory which one it is?
) about if a man wont accept counsel then to let him become as one of the men of the nations to you (or words to that effect?

Oh yes I totally agree with that, I used to hate the WT studies they were so boring, I always preferred the public talk

Ok bear with me cos I am new to this and have lots of questions to ask.
What scriptural basis is given for disfellowshipping and shunning ie what scriptures are used to say this should take place? I seem to recall a scripture (hoping someone can jog my memory which one it is?) about if a man wont accept counsel then to let him become as one of the men of the nations to you (or words to that effect?) and I have always thought that if that means you are to treat the man who wont listen to counsel as you would treat someone off the streets whom you dont know, then surely that means you should treat him with civility and respect even if he is not your "brother" ?
If someone is disfellowshipped then why is it necessary for JWs to completely ignore them and not speak or acknowledge them?
Jesus dined and spoke with many people including prostitutes, sinners, tax collectors etc and when people made mistakes he was patient and forgiving with them. Admittedly some people who are DFd are not repentant or sorry about their mistakes, but I somehow have a hard time imagining Jesus completely ignoring them and not treating them with civility and respect.
Whats wrong with a simple "hello" or a smile or nod of acknowledgement to a DFd person? Why do JWs always take everything to extremes? What happens if you have an active JW and a DFd JW in the same house? You cant ignore them if you have to live with them can you?
Lots of questions I know but these are things I have wanted to know for ages, but when you ask JWs you never seem to get an honest straight forward answer that doesnt involve the words "because this is what were told to do" or something similar I think you guys will give a much more honest answer as some of you may have experienced shunning first hand?

What are your reasons for posting here?
by sonnyboy ini'm curious as to what drives some people to post at certain boards.. for me, i first came here over a year ago thinking this was a pro-jw site, ready to jump on the dubs.
lol.
little did i know.... i posted here exclusively for a while, but then found that the repetitive topics became tedious.

I have just found this forum and my main reason for wanting to post on here is to find out as much as I can about the "bad" side of being a JW, the corruption, the cover ups, the things they dont tell you in their glossy magazines. I want to know it all, because you only really get told the good stuff, and no one tells you the bad, you have to find it out for yourself. So I am here to read people's experiences, learn all the things your not supposed to know about and generally help myself come to a better realisation of what I beleive and why.
If I can help someone else in a similar situation or give someone support along the way, that would be great

I think the WT is like everything else in this world, its got corruption running through it right at the very core. Ive read a lot about the UN issue and the child abuse issues, and it really puts me off attending meetings and giving any sort of support to an organisation I know very little about. I think the internet is a very valuable tool for hearing both sides of the story in order to gain a balanced view of whats really going on. If I was a baptised JW I would probably be in trouble for even coming here and posting right? So that tells me the WT is an organisation that wants to control people because like the cults website says (thanks for the link btw it was an interesting read) if the org genuinely had nothing at all to hide, they would encourage people to go off, do some research, listen to both sides of the story and then make up their minds as to what is the "truth" and whats not.
If you have really strong faith and beleifs then nothing you read on the internet will change that faith, in fact reading opposing views might actually strengthen your faith because debating and discussing is a natural and healthy thing to do. On the doors you would meet people who disagree with your views, so I cant see the difference between that, and coming onto a forum to discuss differing views with people, but I know it is frowned upon if your a practising JW to be on these kind of sites.
From the answers you have gave me I am not one any more in their eyes though so I dont have to worry what anyone else thinks it feels very refreshing to be here, I like this site lots allready

Thanks for the welcome.
The only meeting I ever really enjoyed was the book study one which was usually a small group held in a brother n sisters home. I really wished we could do what the early bible students did though, sit round and go through the Bible, on its own, without any supporting books and just discuss and debate our findings. Why does even something as simple as a small get together to discuss spirituality have to have so many rules and regulations ie you are made to feel like you have to study the book beforehand, prepare all your answers, dress in a certain way, behave in a certain way etc etc etc etc it was like being back at school again and I hated school!

Hi all I am new here and I have a question for you. I was an unbaptized publisher many years ago and attended meetings fairly regularly. I beleived in Jehovah and still do now. I beleive in Jesus, read the bible and pray sometimes. I went out on the service a few times and didnt enjoy it at all. I placed a few magazines, but the whole thing felt unnatural and forced. I was ok about doing informal "chat" type witnessing to people I knew though, that felt ok.
The main problem I had was that allthough I beleive in Jehovah/Jesus/The Bible, I dont beleive in being spoon fed a guide of what to do, how to act and what to think by a bunch of guys in suits. Ive always been a bit rebellious and strong minded. I found all the rules very stifling and claustrophobic. I stopped attending meetings and eventually just drifted away.
I have never been DF'd and I havent DA'd myself so what do you think my "status" is? in the eyes of the cong? in Jehovahs eyes?
Is it possible to serve Jehovah without following all of the WT "Rules"?Can you be a Jehovahs Witness if you live your life by the bibles standards, dont celebrate holidays etc and informally witness to friends, relatives and other people you feel comfortable talking to?Or is being a JW defined by regular meeting attendance, sitting pretty in a little row and putting your hand up with all the right answers, stomping the streets looking for people to take your magazines, and attending regular assemblies and conventions etc?
I would be interested to hear from anyone who feels that all the rules are very restrictive and that these were an obstacle to them serving Jehovah.I think that religion is a private thing and that its between you and your "God" I dont trust some group of elderly guys and Im not convinced by their impressive speeches and their smart suits, I think Jehvoah judges whats on the inside and a lot of these men seem to be all about whats on the outside. Does anyone know where Im coming from?

Amish forgivness
by megsmomma ini saw a part on the today show where matt was asking if it was possible an emotional disconnect to be able to forgive immidietly after such a terrible tragedy.
i personally feel it is not natural to be able to forgive something so big so quickly and it makes me think they all put on a front because they are a cult-like group too.
if they said "one family is forgiving, and another family is mad as h*ll about the whole thing,"it would be much more believable to me.

I dont agree with the way a lot of them run puppy mills where dogs are bred in cramped and crowded conditions purely for money. The Amish are supposed to be a peaceful people who respect animals, so it beats me how they can treat dogs in such a vile way

I cant help thinking whilst reading this that its all about control and making sure everyone stays in line. Why were the pervert brothers who were staring at girls legs, backs, shoulders and cleavages not given a "talk" in the back room about keeping their roving eyes under control?

Hi Im new here, this is an interesting topic. Im confused though, I mean I know its not allowed for unmarried people to do anything with their own body or another person's body which is enjoyable, but what about married couples? does this mean that if you are married you are not allowed to masturbate your partner or have oral sex? Or do married couples have to refrain from this as well?
If Im reading this right it means that all foreplay is out, no touching your partners genitals and theyre not allowed to touch yours?
What exactly are married JW couples allowed to do in bed? and who supervises what they do? lol surely what a man and his wife do between the sheets is up to them and no one else's business?
lol the whole thing sounds ludicrous to me.
